Quilt Alongs

2021/04/23

Many of us have enjoyed Block of the Months (BoM’s), Round Robins, and others. It is so much easier to think of only making a few blocks and setting the project aside to add to it later.

The first step in a Quilt Along. The star from a pattern I always liked but had never made. I realized after making it that it gives me four idea fabrics for my colour scheme so there will be many colours to choose from.

The first row is Rail Fence blocks. So far it is a medallion quilt.

Why do we quilt?

2020/05/25

Why do we quilt?

Yesterday I quilted a baby quilt and as the quilting began to take shape I knew that feeling of – “Oh, yes, this is going to work. This is what I love.”

I was going to say … this is beautiful … but that word has judgement and I still don’t know if that is true. Does it matter? Is it intrinsically beautiful if I, as the creator, think it is beautiful? Another thought is that I wonder if it was the feeling of satisfaction that is beautiful?

Finally started quilting my Friendly Forest. I started with Elizabeth Hartman‘s Fancy Forest and changed it a bit. There are bears in my quilt and fewer of some of the animals. It is a twin bed size quilt for my granddaughter who is moving to a big bed.

The quilting is a meander with circles.

June 2019 – Curated Quilts – Star

2019/06/09

Challenges are fun and I had an idea for Curated Quilts latest mini quilt challenge theme of stars. I wondered what it would be like to put a circle into the centre of the star. Then played with the quilting to increase the star feeling. Voilà

Wow! My quilt has been accepted for the magazine!!

Quilt Canada 2018

2018/05/31

It is finally here! A friend and I went to the opening welcome and giving out of awards.

We were a bit early so had time to walk the promenade along the waters of Vancouver’s harbour.  It was a lovely night with busy restaurants, people on the walking and the bicycle paths, and seaplanes coming and going.

The awards gave us a taste of what will be in the juried show and an idea of how many people are involved it putting on an event of this magnitude.

Today we will be able to see it all.
